Press release -

Just 9% of tenants move due to rent rises

Updated data* from landlord insurance specialists Cover4LetProperty reveals that wanting more space is the key reason for 20% of private renters moving between rented properties.

The survey wanted to find out the reasons why a private tenant typically moves from one rented property to another and to see whether the move is influenced by the landlord and / or the property - or by other circumstances.

The study showed that those respondents who have moved from one rented property to another because of the following reasons …

  • 38% moved to a different area;
  • 20% wanted more space;
  • 9% moved due to the property being in a bad condition;
  • 9% also cited the cost of renting as the reason why they moved;
  • 7% said they moved as they weren’t allowed a pet.

Other reasons included not getting on with their landlord (4%), other tenants (4%) or neighbours (4%); managing to save up for their own home; and landlords selling up.
