LOCAL BUSINESSES SWING FOR CHARITY

Hayling Island headquartered charity Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation (DRWF) celebrated another successful fundraising golf day on Friday 28th April at Meon Valley Golf Club. Supported by networking group Business Builders the day was sponsored by Minoan Trace olive oil and raised £819 for the charity which included a very successful raffle.

The day saw 27 golfers take part and the overall winner was Charlie Gray from the Towergate Insurance team, the longest drive was Simon Quantic part of the Portsmouth Networks team and nearest the pin was Martin Levoi.

“The charity relies on the generosity of people fundraising for us to continue the work we do supporting people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and we are very grateful for the continued support from Business Builders.” Said DRWF CEO Sarah Tutton.

This was the fourth golf day run in conjunction with Business Builders who meet at Langstone Hotel and The Solent Hotel on a bi weekly basis, every Thursday at seven o’clock for breakfast and networking.

Business Builders’ founder Malcolm Archibald said: “We are delighted to have raised a significant sum for this UK diabetes charity. The golf day has become an annual fixture in our calendar of events and it brings a number of business people together to enjoy a charity golf day and help to fundraise for a worthy cause.”

Sponsor Minoan Trace olive oil is grown in Sitia on the island of Crete, where the combination of altitude, Mediterranean climate and salty sea air gives the oil a unique taste and supreme nutritional value. Its flavour is pure and rich, with both fruity and spicy notes.

Nikos Marmaras from Minoan Trace commented: “We were pleased to sponsor the golf day and offer the oil as part of the raffle as we are keen to promote it in the UK as a premium olive oil processed using the cold extraction method.”

The Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation (DRWF) is a registered charity, established in 1998 to raise public awareness to type 1 and type 2 diabetes, associated complications, treatment, avoidance and relief and to provide support to people living with diabetes. Whilst funding diabetes research we aim to ensure that people are ‘staying well until a cure is found...’

In the past 15 years the UK has seen the number of people diagnosed with diabetes almost double, and this continues to rise rapidly. More than one in 20 of the population now lives with diabetes and it is estimated that there will be 5 million people affected by 2025.

While DRWF is an independent, autonomous charity, working for the benefit of people within the United Kingdom, internationally, Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation exists also as a non-profit organisation in the United States of America, in France under the name "Association pour la recherche sur le diabète", and also Sweden (DWNS) and in Finland. We share the same goals and don’t lose sight of the bigger picture, enabling us to take advantage of our international dimension for the benefit of the charity and our beneficiaries.
