DJI, British Journal of Photography, and Guardian Photographer Search for the Dream Aerial Image Project

Two prize packages including a DJI Phantom 4 Pro Drone, £1,500 financing and London gallery exhibition, up for grabs

DJI, the world’s leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, in partnership with British Journal of Photography, has launched the DJI Drone Photography Award. The award has been created to find two photography projects that explore the creative possibilities offered by drones and their aerial capabilities.

“The most exciting part of a flying camera is the unique images it can capture,” said Daniel Schuster, Partnership Manager, DJI Europe.

“Whether from the hands of an everyday photography lover or a photographic luminary, the beauty of the aerial image can be captured by anyone.”

“There is no pre-determined theme or genre for this competition. Instead we’re inviting people to submit project ideas exploring a narrative and subject matter that they feel would be enriched by drone-shot photography or video. Peoples’ imagination is the only limit in this award and we can’t wait to see the results.”

The award is open for entries until 11.59pm GMT, 14th December 2017 and will include Guardian photographer, Graeme Robertson, on the judging panel.

Graeme Robertson is a licensed drone pilot and approaches drone photography with a certain pragmatism. “I don’t want to be that drone guy who is all about how fast and how high a drone can fly,” he says. “It’s about how a drone can make a project better. If I am using a drone just for the sake of using a drone, then I don’t use it.”

The following prizes will be awarded to the two best project ideas:-

  • DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone
  • £1,500 project financing
  • Mentorship by Guardian photographer Graeme Robertson
  • Day-long session of professional video editing
  • Exhibition at a major London gallery
  • Online feature on British Journal of Photography
  • Entry is free and more information along with the registration form can be found here.
