Press release   •   Dec 03, 2013 10:51 GMT

Entrepreneur and investor, Jon S. von Tetzchner has acquired a 10% stake in the Icelandic flight meta-search company Dohop. Mr. Tetzchner notably co-founded Opera Software in 1995 and holds stakes in a range of technology companies across several sectors. With this investment Mr. Tetzchner becomes the company’s third largest shareholder.

Dohop was founded in 2004 on the premise of helping travellers find flight connections on low-cost airlines and later expanded to include all airlines. Dohop’s unique flight search engine allows travellers to find all available flight connections between any two or more airlines, without the necessity of an existing relationship between the airlines.

“Dohop is well positioned for growth in various markets, especially in markets where online travel is growing at a rapidly increasing pace,” says Mr. Tetzchner. “Dohop’s technology is quite unique, and it is the perfect time to use that technology to achieve higher growth for the company in the long run.”

Kristjan Bjarnason, Dohop’s CEO, sees opportunities with a new investor: “Jon is an entrepreneur with technology background, experience and network that will benefit the company in coming years. A stronger ownership base leads to a stronger company with more opportunities to grow in various markets across the world.

In addition to running the consumer website, the company also offers customized versions of its proprietary flight search technology to airlines and airports all over the world. Dohop’s largest customers are Virgin Atlantic Airways and Malpensa Airport in Milan, Italy. The company’s technology helps travellers find connecting flights, especially between low-cost and legacy airlines that are hard to find elsewhere. This helps airlines and airports create an additional revenue stream while providing their customers with better service.

Dohop is a technology company in the travel industry. Dohop was founded in 2004 as a website to find connecting flights with low cost airlines.

The flight search engine can find routes and prices for nearly every airline in the world, as well as nice hotels and rental cars. Dohop also offers enterprise solutions for airline and airport websites, in the form of customized verisons of the flight search.
