Applications and nominations are now invited for the 2014 East Staffordshire Sport Scholarship Awards.
The annual awards will take place at Burton Albion Pirelli Stadium on Thursday 27th March.
The highlight of the evening will again be the awarding of the ‘Burton Albion FC Sports Person of the Year’ award. Previous winners include former Burton Albion player Daren Stride, England netballer Olivia Murphy and last year’s winner, weightlifter Paula De La Mata. Who will be following in their footsteps?
Nominations are also sought for the following categories:
· Young Leader of the Year
· Sports Coach of the Year
· Disabled Performer of the Year
· Administrator of the Year
· Junior Team of the Year
· Senior Team of the Year
· Junior Sports Person of the Year
· Sports Unsung Hero
Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Service Commissioning, said: “East Staffordshire is proud to boast a wealth of sporting talent and the annual awards provide the ideal opportunity to celebrate the various individuals, teams and clubs achievements over the last twelve months, and are yet another example of the Council’s ongoing commitment to our healthy borough initiatives.”

Elite sports performers and coaches who have performed in their chosen sport at regional level or above can also apply for sports grants to help with training and competition costs, to assist them in achieving full national and international honours.
The full criteria for applying for sporting grants is available on the Council’s website at www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk, along with a downloadable application form.
Hard copies of the forms can also be picked up from local Leisure Centres, and the Customer Service Centres. The deadline for applications and nominations is Monday January 20th 2014.
