Netball for All

Press Release   •   Sep 04, 2014 16:29 BST

East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Sport Development Team Successful netball sessions will be continuing this September at Shobnall Leisure Complex.

The first session will target young girls wanting to play the game who are currently in school years 5 to 8. The session will take place every Thursday between 5.00pm and 6.00pm, starting Thursday 18th September. In this session participants will have the opportunity to learn the rules of the game, improve and develop their skills through weekly training sessions and games.

The second session is aimed at women over 16 years wanting to return to the sport or start playing netball. The session will take place every Thursday between 6.00pm – 7.00pm, starting Thursday 18th September. Players do not have to have any experience of the game or worry that they are letting the side down; it is just a fun session that aims to get more people playing sport, while improving their health and fitness. The coach will introduce a new skill each week followed by a friendly game at the end of the session.

Councillor Robert Hardwick, Deputy Leader for Cultural Services, said:  “The health and wellbeing of our residents is of paramount importance the Council as we have demonstrated through our commitment to the healthy Borough initiative. Netball is a great way to get fit and have fun. The Junior session is a perfect introduction to the senior game. The Back 2 Netball session will welcome people from school leavers to mums who have not played the game for a few years. There will be no team sheet, just good fun, turn up with loose fitting clothing, trainers and water.”
