Press Release   •   Sep 04, 2014 16:36 BST

Caroline Lowe who is currently exhibiting at The Brewhouse Arts Centre, demonstrates how choosing to follow your dreams can change your life and lead to amazing new opportunities.

Caroline Lowe has now been taken on by Debut Contemporary, an award winning art incubator space and vibrant contemporary art gallery in Notting Hill, London. As one of their exhibiting artists, she receives mentoring, promotion and has already shown work in 3 of their exhibitions. The Brewhouse Arts Centre is pleased to be showcasing her work here in Burton. Her fantastic exhibition ‘Seeing The Surface’ is on at The Brewhouse until 20th September. You can meet Caroline and view her work at the gallery event on Thursday, 4th September between 7:00pm and 9:00pm at The Brewhouse.

Caroline’s first memory of painting was when she was at infant school, her painting of Prince Charles was on the wall for ages and got a gold star; her teacher at the time kindled her love of art but despite art always being her best subject at school, careers advisers steered her away from pursuing art as a career.

She says “Although a sensible piece of advice I wish I had had the strength to say that's what I wanted to do, but like most youngsters just went with the flow. I went to college, got an office job, got married, had two children but always wanted to learn more about art.”

During that time Caroline lost both her mom and sister to cancer and always had the feeling life was too short to not try to follow you dream.

Her turning point came when she went to night school at Lichfield college, trying out various beginners courses in art. It took 6 years including a 9 month period of convalescence after a serious back injury, but Caroline finally got to follow her dream. In 2009 she began a Foundation Course, passed with flying colours and got a place at Derby University to do BA Hons Fine Art from which she graduated 3 years later with a first and the Vice Chancellors Award.

Caroline now wants to use her artistic skills and experience to help anyone else who has a dream to improve their art and will be running art classes at The Brewhouse starting Tuesday 16th September. The course is open to all abilities and has an emphasis on fun as well as improving their skills.
