ellenor children's nurses urgently need a base in South West Kent

Calling all businesses in South West Kent. Do you have spare capacity in your office or building, with convenient parking, which you could let ellenor (formerly chYps) use as a base in the area for its specialist palliative care nurses?

ellenor Children’s Hospice Care nurses work across South West Kent, providing medical care – including chemotherapy - to children in their own homes. Up until recently, the team had the use of some office space in Tonbridge – but this arrangement has come to an end.

“We would really love to find a convenient base for up to four people at a time – with good road links - where nurses can call in between appointments and write up their notes and make essential phone calls to all those involved in the care of our children,” says Rebecca Scalzo, Head of Children’s Hospice Care at ellenor.

She continues: “At the moment, our nurses are often working from their cars in supermarket car parks or at the side of the road between appointments – which isn’t ideal or indeed safe, particularly when it’s dark and cold.”

The base will also be used by ellenor respite carers – who provide vital respite care into children’s homes, so that parents can have a break to catch up on essential chores or simply have some ‘me’ time.

“We are really focused on expanding the services we offer our families in South West Kent and having a base will make it so much easier for us to do that,” says Rebecca. “In addition to providing respite and nursing care, we want to develop easier access to our other services for families living in South West Kent, such as play and music therapy.”

ellenor nurses will continue working all over the festive period, providing vital care 24/7 – keeping families together at this special time of the year.

“We would be so grateful to any local business which felt they could donate some space to ellenor, it would make our Christmas and make the beginning of 2016 bright for our children and their families,” says Rebecca. “Having this essential base in the heart of the South West Kent community will make it so much easier for us to reach the families facing terminal illness that require our service.”

If you have space which could potentially be used – please do call Rebecca Scalzo on tel: 01474 320007 to discuss further.
