ellenor's Winter Walk brings 330 people together

An amazing 330 people took part in ellenor’s Winter Walk at Shorne Woods Country Park on Sunday 13 December – more than three times the number of people who signed-up for last year’s event.

The 5km walk – ramble or run – was an ideal opportunity to grab some fresh air ahead of the hectic Christmas period. It was also a chance for families to enjoy a fundraising event together and many brought along the family dog as well.

Andy Richford and his son Harry took part in the Winter Walk in a group that numbered 17 friends and family and five dogs. The group were walking to remember Andy’s wife Julie, who died 14 months ago and was looked after by ellenor.

“We miss Julie so very much and we all wanted to walk together to remember her,” said Andy. “We also wanted to thank ellenor for the wonderful care and support they gave to Julie, as well as to Harry and I. We had a really enjoyable walk; it was a great way to raise money for ellenor and also to share our thoughts about Julie.”

Every walker received a free mince pie, ellenor goody bag and Santa hat.

“We were delighted with the huge turnout for the Winter Walk,” says Hayley Brown, Events Manager at ellenor. “It was a fantastic family-orientated event - from little babies being carried along the route to grandparents. Family is at the centre of everything we do at ellenor and this is particularly true at Christmas. We will be providing care right across the festive period 24/7, so that families can be together.”

If you are looking for an invigorating post-Christmas challenge, then why not sign-up for ellenor’s Chilli Dip – which takes place at St Julian’s Club in Sevenoaks. Participants simply have to take a dip in the Club’s unheated outside pool and they will be rewarded with a steaming hot bowl of chilli. To find out more, visit: www.ellenor.org/events
