A CSU is the West Midlands is looking for a Head of Contracting/Strategic Locality Lead for an interim position of 6 months.

Key responsibilities will involve:

  • Leading the locality embedded team covering South East Staffordshire and supporting the Head of Contract & Procurement as part of a professional, high quality and effective and flexible team;
  • Contributing  towardsthe CSU being a provider of market leading Contract Management and wider support services and supplier of choice for its customers;
  • Contributing to an effective delivery strategyincluding contract management support services provided by the CSU, ensuring effective use of agreed resources and people, consistently delivering successful outcomes and helping to manage risk;
  • Leading the operational delivery of the wider CCG customer agenda through matrix working with colleagues and other key functional areas to ensure support services and customer requirements are fully met;
  • Leading and managing a locality based team, ensuring successful delivery of a portfolio of contracts commissioned by the CCGs, to time, to budget;
  • This role is unique in that the seniority of the post will provide appropriate strategic management input to the CCG to ensure the CSU is best positioned to support the delivery of the CCG by understanding CCG key strategic issues and the local agenda. This provides a real development opportunity in that providing leadership to the locality embedded team, this lead will also:
  • Ensuring focus on delivery to the CCGs by participating in key meetings with CCGs/CSU and providing solution focused approaches;
  • Leading the formal performance management process and key relationship of the CSU account with the CCGs, understand any key issues with performance and work with functional leads to identify improvement plan;
  • Working closely with CCGs and CMT team members to deliver commissioning intentions via the contract, negotiating the contract, schedules and SLAs, providing financial modelling advice as an integral part of the commissioning support process to CCGs. 

A successful candidate will be:

  • Educated to masters level or equivalent level of senior management experience;
  • Significant Contract Management experience at senior level;
  • Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current national healthcare policy and appreciate the implications of this on Commissioning and Contract Management;
  • Should have an appreciation of the relationship between NHS England, the local commissioning boards and commissioning organisations;
  • Previously responsible for a budget, budget setting and highly developed knowledge of financial processes, controls;
  • Experience of delivering key messages to a range of stakeholders both internal and external (including outside the NHS) to the organisation, some at very senior level and to large numbers of individuals as required;
  • Significant experience of financial management and working at a senior level accounting standards and policies;
  • Experience of interpreting / developing / implementing policy in an NHS context;
  • Experience of delivering and implementing changes as a result of effective contract management;
  • Extensive knowledge of contract management.
