There have been some major news in the past couple of weeks in Wärtsilä. Here is a scope.
Today it has been announced that Wärtsilä AQUARIUS®EC Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) has been granted International Maritime Organization (IMO) Type Approval.
One of the other latest announcements has been that Wärtsilä will supply complete dual-fuel propulsion and LNG equipment for new German passenger ferry, that is being built for the Germany based Reederei Cassen Eils GmbH. The contract was signed in October 2013 with Fr. Fassmer GmbH, the shipyard responsible for the vessel’s construction.
The company has also received an order from Norway and will supply complete main propulsion systems for six new chemical tankers there. The ships are being built at the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group yard in China on behalf of Stolt Tankers B.V., the operator of one of the world’s largest chemical tanker fleets and a unit of Stolt-Nielsen Limited.
Besides, earlier this month, the company has launched 2-speed marine gearbox to significantly reduce fuel consumption, "offering notable economic and environmental benefits".
The company will also design environmentally advanced container ship for US-based owner, Crowley Maritime Corporation. The vessels will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), and are to be built at the VT Halter Marine’s shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
