Press release -

Passengers advised to check before they travel - Conductor shortages

Passengers travelling with Southern are being urged to check before they travel from today because of a significant number of cancellations due to a lack of available conductors.

Following the RMT’s strike last week we continue to have unprecedented levels of sickness at some of our conductor depots – double the usual rate at some. This has meant we have had to cancel some of our services today.

Today we have tried to spread the cancellations across more routes to provide a better service overall, however some trains may still be cancelled and we urge passengers to check the journey planner or live departure boards at nationalrail.co.uk before they travel, and if necessary, take alternative services where possible.

Of course under our proposals and the introduction of the on board supervisor role, many of these trains would be able to run as the driver would take full operational responsibility for the train, as they already do on 40% of Southern services.

Anyone who has been delayed by 30 minutes or more can claim compensation at www.southernrailway.com/delayrepay.
