Radlett residents get on board with mini library at Thameslink station

A new mini library at Thameslink’s Radlett station has proved a hit with passengers and the wider community.

A bookcase has taken pride of place in the main entrance of the station, where people can pick up a book as they pass through on their journey. Readers are welcome to keep any books they pick up, or if they like, return them to the shelves for someone else to enjoy once they have finished them.

Stuart Miller, 23, who works in the ticket office, came up with the idea to install a bookcase at the station after seeing similar initiatives at other stations. He said: “The idea is to give books a new lease of life. The bookcase is in a good, prominent location and it’s proved to be fairly popular. Passengers of all ages have been picking up books and we keep seeing the books get replenished. It’s a myriad of different books. There’s something for everyone.”

Stuart is encouraging passengers and local residents to drop off any unwanted books at the station to help keep the shelves full. He added: “We have had a few enquiries from people about whether they can leave books. People have really got on board with it. If anyone has any unwanted books, they are welcome to pop down to the station to drop them off.”

Radlett station manager Marc Asamoah added: “I am excited that the Radlett staff want to give something back to the community and are looking at other ways to get them involved."
