Operation Experience: Murder investigation in Southampton

Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a man’s body near Cemetery Road today (November 3)

On Friday 2 November an investigation was commenced into the sudden disappearance of a 66-year-old man from Southampton, who had not been seen since 6.30am on Thursday 1 November.

This evening (Saturday 3 November) police officers located a body, believed to be this man, in woodland off of Cemetery Road in Southampton.

Formal identification has not yet taken place.

The man’s next of kin has been informed a body has been found and are being supported by specialist officers.

At this time this investigation is being treated as a murder enquiry and we have arrested seven people on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody at this time.

Cemetery Road and part of Southampton Common is currently cordoned off while enquiries are completed at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Morgan said: “We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Cemetery Road and who may have seen something unusual or suspicious between 12am on Thursday 1 November and 5pm on Saturday 3 November. “

“Additionally, we would like hear from anyone who may have information that might assist this investigation.
