Press release -

Marina Abramović – The Cleaner Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, Norway

The retrospective exhibition Marina Abramović – The Cleaner has been produced in close collaboration with the artist herself and is the most comprehensive presentation of Marina Abramović´s work in Europe.

When the exhibition opens at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter November 24, it will also be venue for the new Community Event, The Abramović Method.

For more than 50 years, Marina Abramović has challenged the limits of art. The Cleaner presents her long career as an artist and how she has put her distinctive emphasis on performance art in particular. Using her own body as means, she has pushed herself to the utmost, and not rarely exposed herself to mortal danger in her shocking, challenging and moving performance works.

-Marina Abramović is one of contemporary art's most important figures. We are very proud to take this exhibition to Norway and present it as part of the Henie Onstad 50-years anniversary, says Tone Hansen, director at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter.

Since its inception in 1968, Høvikodden has been an important place not only for exhibitions, but also for experimental music, dance, theatre and performance art in Norway. This makes Henie Onstad a natural arena for presenting this particular oeuvre.

-Our hope is that a great audience will use this opportunity to discover Abramović's ground breaking historical performances. Today her art is closely connected to being present, something our audience will get a unique opportunity to experience in the new Community Work of Marina Abramović, says the curator Lars Mørch Finborud.

During the weekends, re-enactments of Abramović's iconic performances will be presented. The new Community Work, The Abramović Method will be open for the audience from February 27 to March 4.

In conjunction to the opening the book Marina Abramović: Drawings 1963-2017 will present the most substantial survey to date of Marina Abramović´s drawings.
