Make your mark with MARKERAD

Press release   •   Aug 22, 2019 16:25 BST

Hi there,

This Autumn/Winter season sees the launch of MARKERAD, the highly anticipated homeware collection, a collaboration between IKEA and Virgil Abloh, artistic director of Louis Vuitton and founder of OFF-WHITE.

Designed with young people creating their first home in mind – whether that be living as singles, couples, or co-living - the collection caters to functional needs, such as a daybed for guests or a display cabinet to proudly store your belongings, whilst still making a fashion statement in the home.

A range that stylishly fuses functionality with street cred and high cultural references, MARKERAD brings millennials statement pieces that challenge tradition. It comprises a varied range of homewares that cater towards fluid and contemporary living, including a daybed, table, chair, mirror, lighting, bed textiles, cabinet and accessories.

Abloh’s background in fashion and music brings a totally new and unique aesthetic to IKEA, resulting in a collection full of irony, humour and unexpectedness. The range takes inspiration from classic contemporary design icons, even dating all the way back to the Italian Renaissance with a modern and striking twist on the renowned Mona Lisa painting.

Clotilde Passalacqua, Interior Design Leader from IKEA UK and Ireland says:

“The new MARKERAD collection is ideal for millennials seeking fashion-forward homewares. From the “Temporary” wall clock featuring a sleek white-on-white design, to the green high pile “Wet Grass” rug designed to emulate grass, this collection offers accessible and affordable statement interiors for metropolitan homes.”

“For a truly showstopping effect, bend the rules a little by hanging the “Receipt” rug from your wall to create a piece of wall art that exudes both texture and pattern.”

“The MARKERAD collection offers plenty of unexpected surprises that turn everyday objects into design icons, such as oversized labels on the textile products and a doorstop attached to the leg of a chair. For young people looking to add an instant touch of cool to their space, this collection certainly hits the mark.”
