Eye to Eye with Frans Hals

Eleonore (Noortje) Heijboer, Amsterdam, Friday, 22nd March.   Oh joy!!  I have been waiting eagerly to be ‘Eye to Eye’ onsite with Frans Hals and our multimedia tour – and here I am.  Amazing experience; the works are stunning.  As advertised, Frans Hals more than stands his ground against Rubens, Rembrandt and Titian.

The opening ceremony was impressive but so cold.  Despite snow and polar winds St Bavo’s church was full and we walked to the museum – arriving half-mummified with cold.  Thankfully, once there, we warmed up quickly inside the exhibition – and not just for this reason, the museum receives a deal of well-deserved praise.

It had been such a pleasure to produce this tour, so needless to say, Saskia and I take our mediaPacker for a test run onsite.  A great tour starts with a great script, and museum educator Neeltje Köhler and writer Henriëtte Führi have delivered an outstanding one.  But a tour also needs great voices, great music (thank you Camerata Trajectina) and a dose of magic as well of course!

I wish the Frans Hals Museum a hugely successful exhibition, and visitors from near and far – whether on a mission, or sheltering from the cold!  With over 400 mediaPackers onsite they should all get to take the tour.  But then if the museum does run out, we’re just around the corner to help out.
