MUSA (the Museum of the University of Saint Andrews) is to offer visitors new mediaPacker tours to their Permanent Collection.
The Museum of the University of Saint Andrews displays to the public some of the treasures from the University’s collection of over 112,000 artefacts. St Andrews University, founded in 1413, is Scotland’s oldest and one of the first three universities in the English speaking world. As the University marks its 600th anniversary, the new multimedia guides will focus attention on the museum’s outstanding collections.
Treasures at MUSA date from the time of the University’s foundation, and include the famous St Salvator’s Mace, one of three mediaeval maces dating from the 15th Century, as well as over 500 instruments illustrating the history of science, and more recently acquired artwork and drawings. The new multimedia guides will reward visitors with expert commentary, archive images and video, and help bring the many collections alive.
The flexibility of the mediaPacker™ platform is central to the project, allowing the museum to change and edit tours over time. Through imagineear’s pioneering in2handheld programme, dedicated to smaller and specialist museums, training programmes have been put in place to ensure MUSA’s staff feels confident in developing, creating and editing their own tours.
