Manchester food tech startup Lo-Dough has become the first ever company to be awarded an official “reduced carb” certification by Sugarwise for its innovative low calorie pizza base. As well as 30% lower in carbs than comparable products, products carrying the coveted Sugarwise mark with a carb claim must fulfill the certifier's additional criteria of having no more than 10g carbohydrate in 100g.

Sugarwise launches a new Alliance of stakeholders committed to tackling obesity at the EU Parliament. The Alliance will be dedicated to improving prepared food in the interest of public health. New data revealed by Euromonitor International shows average daily consumption of sugar in Europe is 30 teaspoons a day. Lidl, Danone, Sun-Maid, Cargill, and Mondelez are among those participating.

A recipe book designed to help people follow World Health Organization guidelines on sugar launches into major retailers across the UK on 28th July. This is the first time recipes have been independently certified by sugar claim authority Sugarwise. To make the grade recipes must be low in "free" sugars including honey and juice. The book includes advice from Cambridge scientists on sweeteners.
