Get ready to celebrate grassroots physical activity and sport: nominations for the London Sport Awards 2020 are now open

Volunteers, physical activity projects and sport organisations from across London are being encouraged to put themselves forward for recognition at London’s biggest celebration of grassroots physical activity and sport, as nominations open for the London Sport Awards 2020.

Marking its fifth year in 2020, the next London Sport Awards is set to be the biggest yet with a range of new categories and opportunities designed to reflect the breadth of physical activity and sport’s impact on the lives of people across London.

Free to enter and judged by a panel of experts from London’s community, civil society and sport sectors, the London Sport Awards exists to provide a platform for the incredible, and often under-celebrated, work taking place in communities in all 33 of London’s boroughs.

With a glittering Awards ceremony set to take place in central London in March, projects, groups, clubs and individuals have an opportunity to nominate themselves for a chance to be recognised as one of the capital’s champions for physical activity and sport.

Nominations open today (Tuesday 19 November) and will close on Wednesday 8 January ahead of shortlist announcements later that month.

The winners of each category will then be announced live at the London Sport Awards ceremony and will join previous London Sport Award winners including Saracens Sport Foundation, Disability Sports Coach, Our Parks, Core Sport, Salaam Peace, London Youth Games and the Daily Mile Foundation in the illustrious London Sport Awards Hall of Fame.

Next year’s event will build on the successes of the London Sport Awards 2019 at Twickenham Stadium, which saw Hornbeam Joy Riders (Club of the Year), Panathlon Challenge (Children and Young People Award) and Franck Batimba (Volunteer of the Year) named among the evening’s Award winners.

To mark the fifth anniversary of the London Sport Awards, next year’s event will see the addition of a number of new Award categories, including a new dedicated Award designed to celebrate the work of an inspirational young person in London for their commitment to grassroots sport.

The full list of categories for the London Sport Awards 2020 is:

  • Volunteer of the Year
  • The Children and Young People Award
  • The Health & Wellbeing Award (replacing The Physical Activity for Health Award)
