There is a rum for all tastes so depending on the dad, here are a trio to try to ensure you select something extra special that will tick all the boxes for pops.

For the whisky drinking dad

Our pick would be El Dorado 12 Year Old Rum as he could approach it in a similar way to whisky. Established in 1670, the award winning El Dorado rums are produced in Guyana using Demerara sugar.

The 12-year-old demerara rum is highly decorated and bottled in a design which honours the flasks cast aside by Dutch sailors. It is a blend of three stills – two columns (including the world’s only wooden Coffey still) and a unique double wooden pot still. Rich amber in colour, the rum has a super attractive nose packed with aromas of sugar, honey, banana, toffee, raisin and sultanas. Ripe, rich and balanced flavours attend with sweetness, after which the finish is delightful, elegant and dry.

The Serve: Either try straight over ice or for a twist on a classic – a Rum Old Fashioned takes some beating.

For the party dad

For the old man who loves nothing more than donning the Hawaiian shirt and getting the barbecue ripping with tiki cocktail in hand, our new Tiki Lover’s Pineapple Rum from The Bitter Truth is the perfect pick.
