Council backing female leaders to achieve their potential with Women in Business
Female elected members and senior officers on Mid and East Antrim Borough Council now have the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and business expertise after Council agreed to corporate membership of the organisation Women in Business.
Council is delighted to avail of the arrangement and become part of the fastest growing business network for female entrepreneurs and business leaders here.
The organisation facilitates women’s positive contributions to the economy and society of Northern Ireland by developing every member’s professional skills, connections and confidence to achieve their ambition.
Women in Business represents business women including owners, sole traders, entrepreneurs, employers, employees, managers and CEOs and provides a wide network of over 4,000 and growing on a monthly basis.
Elected members at the March meeting of Full Council agreed with a proposal to avail of Corporate Membership of the organisation.
The arrangement will allow Council to continue on its commitment to delivering a vision for a high performance team, which currently has 10 female elected members and 11 female senior managers.
Council will also have the opportunity to obtain unlimited membership for all female employees to allow them to avail of all the networking, events, masterclasses and programmes at either no cost or a reduced rate.
The Women in Business annual calendar of events includes over 60 networking opportunities and four conferences.
Deputy Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Cllr Beth Adger MBE, welcomed the development.
“Council continues to lead the way in helping our female elected members and employees reach their full potential as we strive to improve our borough and way of life for all the people who live and work here.
“I am delighted we are able to make more opportunities for leadership training, networking and business development available to the women who serve the community of Mid and East Antrim to help us achieve the best results for our citizens.”
In November 2019, Council Chief Executive Anne Donaghy was presented with the Outstanding Management and Leadership award at this year’s Women in Business Awards, in recognition of her passion for investment, innovation, job creation and growing the economy of Mid and East Antrim, and Northern Ireland.
