Mayor congratulates County Antrim adventurer on completing around the world trip

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Councillor Maureen Morrow has congratulated Norman Surplus, from Larne, on completing his around the world trip in an autogyro.

Mr Surplus began this journey in 2010 and is the first person to have completed a trip of this magnitude in an autogyro.

Commenting on his achievement Mayor Councillor, Maureen Morrow said: “I would like to congratulate Norman on successfully completing his around the world trip. This journey was not without its challenges and Mr Surplus should be applauded for circumnavigating the globe in a gyroplane, something no-one else has achieved to date.”

As well as setting a gyroplane record, Mr Surplus is a cancer survivor who used the trip to raise funds for cancer charities. He completed his task last Friday after travelling 27,000miles and visiting 32 countries.
