Public urged to help shape Council’s Local Development Plan

The people of Mid and East Antrim are being urged to have their say on the next stage of Council’s new planning framework.

The Draft Plan Strategy sets out how Mid and East Antrim will grow and change up to the year 2030, putting forward its plan vision and strategic objectives for the future.

Officially launched at The Braid in Ballymena on Tuesday, it sets out the Council’s ambitions and policies for employment, infrastructure, housing and sustainable growth and follows extensive consultation with the public, stakeholders and elected members.

The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Maureen Morrow, said: “This plan sets out the key findings following two years of research. Its purpose now is to get your views so we can shape and develop a planning framework that will be used in determining planning decisions.

“We need to produce a strong and effective plan, one that supports economic growth and innovation, infrastructure, the right mix of housing, schools and more.”

A number of public meetings and drop in sessions have been organised. The drop-in sessions will be staffed by members of the Development Plan Team who will be happy to answer any queries on the Draft Plan Strategy. The public meetings will consist of a short presentation outlining the Draft Plan Strategy followed by a question and answer session.

Residents, community groups, developers and statutory partners have eight weeks to share their feedback with the Draft Plan Strategy open for formal public consultation on Wednesday 16 October 2019.

Chair of Council’s Planning Committee, Councillor Robert Logan, said: “The Eight week period of public consultation and engagement will provide everyone with an opportunity to have their say on our proposals for the future of the Borough and I would encourage everyone to take the time to respond.”

Chief Executive of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Anne Donaghy, said: “This plan is not just about us and how we currently live. This is a plan for our children, older people within our community - everybody.

“This is a roadmap to create a stronger borough with more employment and improved quality of life within Mid and East Antrim.”

Next steps outlined for Mid and East Antrim Local Development Plan 2030 process

​Public consultation on the LDP Draft Plan Strategy concluded on 11 December 2019. Altogether, 80 representations were received from consultees, stakeholder groups, development interests and members of the public who have now all had their say on the draft Plan strategy and supporting documentation.
