Merlin has become a founding charity partner of Jaro - a new global game for good aiming to raise a billion dollars for charitable causes.
Jaro is asking people to help raise US$1 billion and decide how to split it between charitable causes and one lucky winner. The decision is entirely in the public’s hands.
Thirteen leading charities have signed up to be beneficiaries of the game, which aims to be the single largest fundraising initiative in the world and potentially the provider of the biggest single prize pot of money ever.
The launch of Jaro comes as figures released in March by PwC, Charity Finance Group and the Institute of Fundraising show that the economic conditions continue to prove challenging to charities*. More than nine in 10 charities (93 per cent) said that they were experiencing a squeeze on fundraising while more than two thirds (67 per cent) said that demand for their services had increased.

It costs US$10 (approximately £6.40) to play. You compete against real people across the world in an online knockout tournament similar to a numerical version of Battleships.
Unlike other lotteries or online games, players decide how much of their ticket price they wish to donate to charity and how much they want to go into the winner’s jackpot.
