Pregnancy can kill

Collette is the only chance Sabina has left in the world.

They first met only 5 days ago.  Sabina’s baby is dying and without Collette’s constant love and care, she will die too.

But, despite only having 18 months of training 32 years ago, Collette knows what Sabina needs. She knows because she has been here, meeting people in the most tragic of circumstances many times before.

Because of this, Sabina will live and mourn her loss.

In another room in the same hospital another mother has lost her baby too. But she won’t mourn like Sabina.

Because Collette works alone in the Elilia health centre in remote Democratic Republic of Congo, she has no chance of saving every life. Since her assistant left, she now has responsibility for over 5,000 women.

There are no doctors out here.

For many women, she is their last chance.

But many more have no chance.
