Man arrested following robbery in Walton Vale

We have arrested a man following the robbery of a cash box in Walton this morning (Friday 14 June 2019).

Just after 10.05am, a security guard was making a cash box delivery on Walton Vale when two men approached him from behind and threatened him with a knife.

The victim dropped the cash box and the offenders made off with it on foot along Park Vale Road and onto Spire Green Road.

The security guard was not assaulted during the incident.

Members of the public detained one suspect on Spire Green Road. A 45-year-old man from Walton has been arrested on suspicion of robbery. He has been taken to a police station to be interviewed

The cash box was later recovered in an alley off Chapel Lane and has been taken for forensic examination.

Enquiries are ongoing to locate a second male and anyone who may have information is asked to contact police.

Detective Inspector Judith Blease said: "It is completely unacceptable for this guard to be subjected to this ordeal while he was simply trying to do his job.

"We are carrying out a number of enquiries around the Walton Vale area in order to establish exactly what happened and trace a second male who ran from the scene.

"This includes examination of CCTV footage and forensic enquiries, and we would be keen to hear from anyone who might have dashcam footage or CCTV in that area. We also appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident itself or who saw the offenders acting suspiciously to get in touch.”

Anyone with info is asked to contact @MerPolCC, 101 quoting incident reference 19100309707 or @CrimestoppersUK. Any information no matter how small will be treated with the utmost confidence and could assist with our investigation.
