Update following RTC - Hale Drive, Speke

UPDATE – Following a collision in Hale Drive, Speke last night (Thursday, 28 February), Merseyside Police can confirm the 45-year-old female cyclist died.

The woman’s family has been informed. A second injured man, aged 39 years, remains in a critical but stable condition.

A 21-year-old man from Halewood has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody at this time.

The road was re-opened last night and officers continue to appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or has dashcam footage, can contact @MerPolCC, call 0151 777 5747 or 101 with reference 0822 of 28.02.19.

ORIGINAL - Officers from the Roads Policing Unit are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision in Speke this evening (Thursday, 28 February 2019).

Emergency services were called to Hale Drive following a collision involving three cars (a white Ford Fiesta, a red Ford Fiesta and a red Ford C-Max) and two cyclists.

Both cyclists, who are believed to have been together, suffered serious injuries and have been taken to Fazakerley Hospital.

Inquiries are ongoing to identify next of kin.

The drivers of the three cars stopped at the scene and are assisting officers with their inquiries.

A road closure is currently in place at the junction of Hale Drive and Western Road and the junction of Hale Drive and Dunlop Road and diversions are in place. Please avoid the area and plan your journeys accordingly.
