Woman sentenced for manslaughter of her mother by gross negligence

Merseyside Police has today, (Tuesday 30 April), welcomed the sentencing of a daughter for the manslaughter by gross negligence of her 91-year-old mum.

Teresa Curphey, 91 years, died from sepsis on 20 February 2017, as a result of severe bed pressure sores that her daughter failed to seek medical help for.

Therese Curphey Jnr, 53 years of Lydford Road West Derby was found guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence and was sentenced to four years.

Detective Inspector Phil Atkinson said: “This has been a really sad case and the conditions Mrs Curphey were left in were disgusting.

“It’s sad that a person of 91 was left in such conditions, that in her dying days she was deprived of her dignity.

“While today’s sentence cannot undo what has happened, I hope this result now gives the rest of Mrs Curphey’s family some sense of justice."
