Appeal after male injured in street fight

Detectives investigating an attack on a teenager in Bethnal Green are appealing for witnesses.

Police were called to Globe Road, E2 at 15:45hrs on Friday, 17 May, to reports of a large group fight.

London Ambulance Service also attended and found a 17-year-old male with a slash wound to the head.

The injury was initially treated as life threatening however following surgery he has made a full recovery and was discharged from hospital 6 days later.

A second male, aged 15, was found nearby with a minor slash wound to the hand.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm [GBH] with intent.

Detective Constable Greg Adams is leading the investigation and is appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident to come forward.

He said: “This was a nasty incident and it was pure luck that he was not more seriously injured.

“We are exploring a number of lines of enquiry and determining the circumstances which led to the fight.

“The motive behind the attack is still being established.

“This happened in the middle of the day in Bethnal Green and we are sure that there are more people who saw this who have yet to share what they know.

“Please call my team, or give information anonymously.”

In addition to the 15-year-old boy who was arrested in hospital, two males aged 15 and 16 were arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH with intent. They were taken to an east London police station for questioning.

Another male, aged 15, handed himself into police and was also arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent in connection with the attack.

All have been bailed to return at a date in mid-June.
