Appeal following fatal road traffic collision in E1

Detectives from the Roads and Transport policing command are appealing for information and witnesses to come forward after a female pedestrian died in a fatal road traffic collision.

Police were called by London Ambulance Service at around 21:05hrs on Thursday, 10 December to an injured female in Cannon Street Road, near the junction with The Highway, E1.

Officers attended and found a 37-year-old female pedestrian suffering from critical head injuries. She was pronounced dead at scene a short while later. Next-of-kin have been informed.

A 53-year-old man was arrested on Monday, 14 December on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident and taken to an East London police station for questioning. He has been bailed to a date in late February.

Investigating officers are especially keen to speak to the drivers of a Zafira and a transit size maintenance type vehicle seen in the area at the time.
