Appeal following rape in Lambeth

Police are appealing for information and witnesses after a woman was raped in Brixton.

Officers were called at approximately 02:30hrs on Sunday, 2 August, to Tudor Close, Brixton Hill, after a 27-year-old woman contacted emergency services stating that she had been attacked.

The London Ambulance Service were also called to the scene.

The woman told officers that she was approached by a man, who she did not know, just before 02:30hrs by a bench on Tudor Close before the suspect dragged her by the arm into a secluded area where he raped her.

She was taken to a Haven Sexual Assault Referral Centre; she did not require hospital treatment.

The suspect is described as black and aged in his mid-20s. 

Detectives from the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command are investigating. 

Detective Inspector Michael Murfin, said: "This is very serious incident and naturally the victim is very distraught. Specialist officers are currently providing assistance to her and are seeking any witnesses or information that might assist in their investigation."

No arrests have been made. Enquiries continue.
