Appeal following unexplained death

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following the death of a man in Sydenham.

Police were called to Sydenham Hill, SE26 at 20:00hrs on Friday, 21 August to a man found unresponsive in bushes. 

The London Ambulance Service attended and the man, aged in his mid-30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A firearm was found and recovered by police.

Next of kin have been informed; we await formal identification.

A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course. 

The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

An incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons of the Homicide and Major Crime Command.

Local road closures remain in place.

Enquiries continue. There have been no arrests.
