Detectives investigating a serious assault have released images of two young males they want to trace.
At around 20:30hrs on 22 December 2017, the victim, a 32-year-old man, was approached by two males [suspects 1 and 2] as he walked through Memorial Park in West Ham, Newham.
They asked him for a cigarette, and when he said he did not have any, one of the males began to shout abuse, and then started throwing stones.
The victim was followed to Grange Road where an older man [suspect 3] arrived at the scene in a car and approached the victim in an aggressive way before punching him in the face, knocking him to the ground.
All three males then kicked him while he was on the ground. The driver left the scene in his car, and the two younger males ran off.
The victim went home after the attack. He suffered a deep cut to his head and bruising to his body, and later visited hospital for treatment. He was found to have sustained a fracture to his jaw, and received stitches for the head wound.
No arrests have been made, and Newham CID are investigating.
As part of the ongoing inquiry, they have released images of suspects 1 and 2 in the hope that someone recognises them and reports their suspicions to police.
Detective Constable Dave Van der Valk, of Newham CID, said: “This was a sustained assault on the victim who was minding his own business when these suspects picked a fight and attacked for no apparent reason, leaving him needing hospital treatment for injuries.
“We are releasing CCTV stills of two men we would like to speak to as part of our investigation. Do you know who they are? Please call in and provide their names.”
Suspect 1 is described as a white male, aged in his late teens to early 20s, 5ft 9in tall. He had dark brown or black hair, and was wearing a dark coloured top.
Suspect 2 is taller than suspect 1 - around 6ft tall - and again clean shaven, wearing a light-coloured hooded top. He had short light brown or blond hair.
Suspect 3 had a darker skin complexion than the other two suspects, and was aged in his late 20s to early 30s. He was around 5ft 8ins tall with dark stubble on his face. He was wearing a dark coloured jumper, possibly blue, and a beanie hat. He said before the attack that suspects 1 and 2 were his cousins.
Anyone who witnessed this incident, or who recognises these two males or has information about possible suspects is asked to call police via 101, quoting reference 6068/22DEC17.
