Death of man in Sydenham

Police continue to appeal for witnesses and information following the death of a man in Southwark.

Police were called to Sydenham Hill, SE26 at 20:00hrs on Friday, 21 August to a man found unresponsive in bushes.

The London Ambulance Service attended and the man, aged in his mid-30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A firearm was found and recovered by police.

We believe we know the name of the deceased, but await formal identification. Next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination took place on Sunday, 23 August, at Greenwich Mortuary and gave the cause of death as a gunshot wound.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

Officers from Southwark CID are investigating alongside colleagues from the Homicide and Major Crime Command.
