Detectives are appealing for witnesses after gunshots were heard in Hackney last night.

Police were called to Retreat Place, E9 by a member of the public at 23.40hrs on Thursday, 22 August, after hearing what are believed to have been gunshots.

When officers attended, a number of firearm shell casings were found, however no firearm was found at the location, and no victim has been identified.

There are no suspect descriptions at this stage and officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. They would like to hear from anyone who may have seen any vehicles which seemed out of place, or which may have aroused suspicion of residents.

Detective Sergeant Adam Knowles from Trident in the Met’s Specialist Crime, said: “We are progressing our enquiries into this incident, and at this stage we do not believe anybody was injured.

“Three dark coloured vehicles were seen leaving Retreat Place in the direction of morning lane. We would like to hear from anyone who saw these vehicles, or who was driving them.

“Were you in or around the area when the gunshots were heard? If you have information that could help us investigate, but don’t want to speak to police, please contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They do not ask your name and cannot trace your call or I.P address.”

At this time, officers are treating this as an isolated incident.
