Detectives continue to investigate the fatal stabbing of 22-year-old Osvaldo Carvalho on Tuesday, 24 September. Three men have been charged with Osvaldo’s murder.

Police officers and divers are searching Bixley Fields and an adjoining section of the Grand Union Canal off Willowbrook Rod in Southall. The search of the canal started on Wednesday, 2 October.

At around 1930hrs on the night of the murder, police were called to a small fire in Bixley Fields. This was found to contain clothing, which detectives believe may be linked to the murder.

The murder weapon has not yet been recovered.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who was in Bixley Fields on the evening of 24 September to call police.

In particular, they want to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious - possibly somebody disposing of clothing, starting a fire or throwing something into the canal.

Police were called at around 18:00hrs on Tuesday, 24 September to West Lodge Avenue, W3 following reports of a stabbing.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found Osvaldo, who was from Hanwell, injured in the street. He died at the scene.

A post-mortem examination held on Wednesday, 25 September and gave the cause of death as shock and haemorrhage following a stab wound.

It is believed that Osvaldo and two friends had arrived in the area by car, they entered a small green area known as Twyford Crescent Gardens.

There was then an altercation with another group of men which resulted in Osvaldo and his friends running away. Osvaldo was then chased by the other group and suffered stab injuries which proved to be fatal.

Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh, from Specialist Crime, said: “It has only been seven days since Osvaldo had his life cruelly taken from him in the most brutal of ways. On Sunday, we charged three men with his murder but that doesn’t mean that my investigation has concluded.

“We continue to receive valuable support from the local community but I still believe that there are a number of people who are yet to come forward and speak with us. I would urge them to contact the incident room and tell us what they know.

“Did you witness the attack or see men running away armed with knives? Have you overheard people talking about that evening? Officers will be in the area of West Lodge Avenue this evening. Please speak with them if you have any information or wish to raise any concerns.

“Osvaldo and his friends were attacked by a group of men; I believe that some of them remain outstanding. It is vitally important that we identify them so that they can be arrested.”
