Drugs dealers sentenced following Newham operation

A group of Stratford drug dealers have been jailed for a total of more than 28 years.

On Friday, 18 August at Snaresbrook Crown Court the ten men received custodial sentences and five year Criminal Behaviour Orders for drugs offences in Newham.

Following a number of complaints made to police by local businesses and community members about drug dealing, anti-social behaviour and intimidation in the area police set up an operation to catch the offenders.

Metropolitan Police officers from the Newham Proactive Team and the Territorial Support Group arrested the men for the supply of class A and B drugs in Stratford during the evening of Wednesday, 5 July.

Under Operation Duntroon, a four-month investigation into drug dealing in Stratford and New Town ward, was conducted by Newham CID and the local neighbourhood policing team. Significant evidence was secured against the defendants who have now been jailed.

[A] Evanildo Gomes, 26 (24.11.90) of St. Andrews House, Barking was charged on 6 July with six counts of the supply of class A drugs and two counts of possession with intent to supply of class B drugs. He appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates' Court on Friday, 7 July. He was sentenced to three years and 10 months' imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years

[B] Tito Cassule, 19 (24.02.98) of no fixed abode was charged on 6 July with six counts of the supply of class A drugs. He appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates' Court on Friday, 7 July. He was sentenced to three years two months' imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years.

[C] Joelson Miguel Balde, 21 (14.12.95) of no fixed abode was charged on 6 July with three counts of the supply of class A drugs. He appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates' Court on Friday, 7 July. He was sentenced to three years and two months' imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years.

[D] Jose Mario Sa, 23 (13.02.94) of Horsebridge Close, Dagenham was charged on 6July with three counts of the supply of class A drugs. He appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates' Court on Friday, 7 July. He was sentenced to three years and five months' imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years.

[H] Janilson Viera 26 (26.06.91) of Cowbridge Lane, Barking was charged on 6 July with five counts of the supply of class B drugs and one count of possession of class B drugs. He appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates' Court on Friday, 7 July. He was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment suspended for two years, a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years and 150 hours community order.

[W] Claude Greenaway, 24 (13.11.92) of Plaistow Road, Stratford was arrested and charged on 14 July for four counts of possession of a Class A drug namely two counts of Heroin and two counts of crack cocaine. He was remanded to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court on Saturday, 15 July

He was sentenced to three years and two months' imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years

[X] Terrel Paul, 24 (11.10.92) of Marriott Road, Stratford, Newham was arrested and charged on 14 July with three counts of possession of a Class A drug namely Heroin and four counts of possession of a Class A drug namely crack cocaine. He was remanded to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court on Saturday, 15 July. He was sentenced to two years and nine months' imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years.

[Y] Bruno Da Silva, 23 (08.08.94) of no fixed abode was charged on 8 July with one count of supplying cocaine, one count of supplying crack cocaine and two counts of supplying a class B drug namely Cannabis. He was remanded to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court on Monday, 10 July. He was sentenced to three years and five months' imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years

[Z] Benedict Larbi, 21 (22.04.96) of Flint Close, Stratford, Newham was charged on 13 May with one count of possession of an offensive weapon and two counts of breach of an ASBO. He was remanded to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court on Monday, 10 July. He was sentenced to four years' imprisonment and a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years

[O] Rui Santos, 22 (04.03.95) of First Avenue, Dagenham was charged on 15 July with three counts of supplying a class B drug namely Cannabis. He was bailed to attend Thames Magistrates' court on 14 August and was sentenced to six months' imprisonment suspended for two years and 150 hours community work.

Chief Superintendent Ade Adelekan, Borough Commander for Newham, said:

"This has been a very successful operation, which has seen a large number of people arrested for being involved in the supply of class A and B drugs.

"We want to reassure the business and the community that dealing drugs in Newham will not be tolerated. Drug dealers are harmful to our communities and take advantage of vulnerable people.

"Our operations against this criminality will be tireless and unwavering until we have dismantled this criminal group and reduced crime within the Stratford and New Town ward."
