Detectives from Tower Hamlets Borough investigating an assault have issued video footage of two men they wish to identify and speak to in connection with the incident.

On Monday, 16 May, police were called at around 20:55hrs to a report of an assault near Spindrift Avenue close to Millwall Park. Two men were assaulted; one suffered a broken nose.

At this early stage of the investigation it is believed the driver of a BMW car was assaulted by two men after he arrived at the scene of an ongoing dispute. The driver was hit across the face with a hammer.

A second man received a cut to his hand after he tried to defend himself from a man armed with a knife.

The suspect (suspect 1) with the hammer then smashed the windows of his car.

The 30-year-old victim of the hammer attack was taken to an east London hospital for treatment and later discharged.

Two suspects from the group were captured on a mobile phone and are described as:

'Suspect 1' [ref: 213395] is described as a medium built man, aged in his 20s, and 5ft tall. He was wearing a dark hooded top, dark trousers and spoke with an English accent.

'Suspect 2' [ref: 213396] is described as a slim built Asian man, aged in his early 20s, and 5ft 4ins tall. He was wearing a green khaki jacket and carrying a shoulder bag. He also spoke with an English accent.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may recognise either man or who witnessed the assault.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 020 7275 4550 or via 101 quoting reference number 213395 (suspect 1) or 213396 (suspect 2) or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.
