Neighbourhood officers on patrol in Newham have arrested a male and recovered a knife following a foot chase.
At approximately 14:55hrs on Saturday, 7 April, officers on patrol in Newham spotted a group of males in the vicinity of Church Avenue, E12.
On approaching the group, the males ran off.
Following a foot chase, one of the males was detained in a rear garden on Church Avenue and a knife was found discarded nearby.
The male, aged 16, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and remains in custody at an east London police station.
Inspector Paul Stubbs of Newham Police said:
"Thanks for the quick actions of my officers, a potentially lethal weapon has been taken off the streets.
"As the Commissioner has spoken about this week, the Met is committed to tackling violent crime and this is just one example of the type of work officers throughout the Capital carry out on a daily basis."
