Man dies in motorcycle collision

Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses after the death of a man in a motorcycle collision in Mottingham.

Police were called at 16:34hrs on Monday, 24 August, to a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle in Mottingham Road near the junction with William Barefoot Drive, SE9.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found two injured males at the location.

An 18-year-old man, believed to have been the pillion passenger on the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers believe they know his identity, but await formal identification and confirmation that next of kin have been informed.

A 17-year-old youth, believed to have been the rider of the motorcycle, was taken by ambulance to an east London hospital. His condition is serious but stable.

At this stage it is believed that the motorcycle collided with a traffic island on Mottingham Road.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Catford are investigating. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact police on 020 8285 1574.
