Murder investigation launched in Chislehurst

A murder investigation has been launched in Chislehurst after an 18-year-old man was assaulted and died from his injuries.

Police were called at approximately 21:05hrs on Tuesday, 9 January to reports of a fight on Empress Drive in Chislehurst.

Officers attended and found an injured man.

He was taken by the London Ambulance Service to a south a London hospital where he later died shortly after 08:00hrs.

His next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course. Formal identification awaits.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are dealing and DCI Tim Wright is leading. He said: "We understand that neighbours and people passing through the area witnessed the incident on Tuesday evening. We are keen to speak to all witnesses and would encourage them to come forward as soon as possible.

"A young man has lost his life and we are doing everything we can to piece together what took place."

There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.
