Murder investigation launched in Enfield

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was shot in north London.

Police on routine patrol in Enfield were stopped by a member of the public at approximately 21:10hrs on Wednesday, 23 August and informed of a shooting.

A 54-year-old man was found collapsed in Westminster Road at the junction of Bounces Road suffering from gunshot injuries.

Additional officers, including firearms officers, and the London Ambulance Service attended.

The man was pronounced dead at 21:44hrs.

Next of kin have been informed. A post-mortem examination will be held in due course. An incident room has opened under detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command (HMCC).

Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith said: "We are pursuing all lines of enquiry at this early stage and would urge anyone who believes they might have information to come forward as it could prove vital for our investigation."

There have been no arrests and enquiries continue. Officers are keeping an open mind about the motive for the murder.
