A serving Police Constable has been found guilty of three counts of theft.

PC Oliver Darby, 42, attached to the Central West Command Unit, was found guilty at Blackfriars Crown Court on Thursday, 8 August.

He is due to be sentenced at the same court on 27 August.

The court heard that PC Darby was on duty with a colleague in January 2017 when they were tasked with attending a property in Maida Vale following the non-suspicious death of a man.

On 11 January 2018 a search of his residence at a police section house was conducted where a driving licence and bank card in the name of the deceased male was found along with three other bank cards that did not belong to PC Darby.

PC Darby was arrested on 11 January 2018 and charged with three counts of theft on 23 May 2018

Misconduct proceedings will begin in due course.

The officer is currently on restricted duties.
