Two charged following firearms incidents in Newham

Detectives investigating number of recent firearms incidents in Newham Borough have charged two men.

[A] Awadeh Saleh, 18 (28.05.99) of Chesterton Terrace, E13 and [B] Cameron Johnson, 19 (30.08.97) of Frinton Road, E6 were charged on Monday, 28 August with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an imitation firearm in a public place and taking and driving away

Saleh was also charged with disqualified driving and no insurance.

Johnson has also been charged with possession of a firearm of length less than 30cm / 60cm (prohibited weapon).

Both appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates' Court on Monday, 28 August.

The men were arrested on Sunday, 27 August when Trident detectives - supported by officers from Newham Borough and the Specialist Firearms Command - carried out search warrants at addresses in Plaistow and East Ham and arrested two men [A] and [B] - in connection with three recent incidents. Both were subsequently charged as above.

The incidents relating to their charges are:
- two men shot in Viking Gardens, E5 at around 19:20hrs on Thursday, 24 August;
- the discharge of a shotgun in Barking Road, E16 at around 16:10hrs on Thursday, 24 August; no reports of any injuries;
- two men shot in Prince Regents Lane, E16 at around 15:50hrs on Saturday, 26 August.
