Mental health charity set to receive £5k from The Cadbury Foundation

Press release   •   Apr 17, 2019 08:00 BST

Sport in Mind will receive £5,000 from The Cadbury Foundation

Berkshire-based charity, Sport in Mind, has been hand-selected by employees at Mondelēz International in Reading to receive a donation of £5,000.

Providing sport as alternative support for people experiencing mental health problems, the charity will be granted the substantial figure from The Cadbury Foundation, as part its ‘Your Charity Your Choice’ scheme.

Sport in Mind works to combat social isolation and aid recovery for those experiencing mental health issues. Supporting people in inpatient care at Prospect Park Hospital and the local community, the organisation has already helped in excess of 10,000 people.

The donation will be used to provide new equipment and cover running costs for the range of free sports and activity sessions they offer, directly improving the lives of those experiencing mental health issues.

Each year, all Mondelēz International UK employees are invited to nominate wellbeing-related charities or projects close to their hearts, with the final shortlisted charities up for vote amongst fellow colleagues.

The Cadbury Foundation was set up in 1935 in recognition of Richard and George Cadbury and their investment in the welfare of their employees and the local community.

Laura Brooks, development manager at Sport in Mind, said: “This donation will help us continue to reach and support people in the area and we want to thank Rebecca Whaling and Lea Richards for nominating us, and The Cadbury Foundation for its remarkable donation.

Rebecca Whaling, functional ingredients scientist at the companies Reading site said: “The positive impact this charity has had in Reading is outstanding and this amazing donation is going to be influential for so many people.”

Kelly Farrell, community affairs manager at Mondelēz International said: “We are extremely proud to be able to support the charities that are important to our employees through our ‘Your Charity Your Choice’ scheme.

“Sport in Mind work tirelessly to improve the lives of those experiencing mental health problems, and we’re delighted The Cadbury Foundation can contribute to its life changing work.”
