Taxi marshals prepare for 'mad Friday'
As hundreds of workers celebrate the festive season with the annual work parties, taxi marshals took up their positions today as part of the Safer Streets Christmas campaign.
The initiative is now in its tenth year and is designed to ensure revelers enjoy the festivities safely.
Steve Robertson of Saltaire Security who will be providing the taxi marshals in Elgin town centre said: “We have been supporting the Moray Community Safety Partnership in this role for over ten years and we are pleased to be part of the campaign again this year. This is a great time of year to have fun and celebrate Christmas in Elgin town centre and our guys are there simply to help ensure that people can stay safe.”
Taxi operators say they appreciate the marshals keeping order at the taxi ranks.
Chris McRae of Chris’s taxis said: “Safe streets is a good thing. It’s great to see people out on the town enjoying their night out and keeping the taxi queue orderly is big help and a contribution to keeping people safe.”
The Safer Streets campaign is funded by Moray Community Safety Partnership and the Moray Drug and Alcohol Partnership to provide additional police officers, taxi marshals and Red Cross for all weekends in December on Elgin’s High Street.
