The on-line retail industry has stamped its profile in grand style with a multi-million pound new distribution site due to opened by the end of the year in Scotland.
Esteemed executive employment consultancy UK Knack Group’s managing director was proud to announce this morning that the on-line retail behemoth Amazon will create 950 new full-time jobs and another 1500 part-time slots during peak periods, such as the lead-up to Christmas.
UK Knack Group said that 750 new jobs will be established at the new centre in Dunfermline in Fife, and the internet giant will transfer also its entire staff from the existing facility at nearby Glenrothes. In addition, 200 jobs will open up at Amazon’s Gourock site, where customers’ purchases are packed and shipped.

Allan Lyall, Amazon’s 2 i/c European operations, told UK Knack Group, “We’re rapt about the move to Dunfermline. We have wanted for quite some time now to centralise all our operations on or near Glenrothes. We have a super team of workers, with stacks of experience and product knowledge.
“We beat off some tough international competition for this development, and we’re impressed no end by the cooperation and competence of the Scottish Development International Board.”
The site for the new Dunfermline centre will be a 39-acre block at Calais Muir South, until now a joint possession of Scottish Enterprise and the Fife Council.
