Android 4.2 Key Lime Pie and Motorola Nexus?

News   •   Oct 25, 2012 13:00 BST

The new update for the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system from Android is called Jelly Bean and many people know about it here in the UK but have yet to see it. The slow upgrade could be completely missed out as there is already 4.2 coming out soon, called the Key Lime Pie. This is crazy that we’ve yet to see Jelly Bean on some devices that can handle it, and as such, many people are angered at it.

The other news is that Google is opening its Nexus doors to other manufacturers that have a product specification to their liking. This means we could see other smartphone makers run on Android and be classed as the Nexus. Again, this is Google battling for market share and going about it the licensing way rather than deal with the hassle of actually manufacturing themselves. Motorola is the next in-line to bring out a Nexus phone, with the LG Nexus 4 coming out in a few weeks, and Samsung isn’t being at all but dropped from the Galaxy Nexus fan club. As Samsung has a major footing in the market it does seem a safer option for Google to use other manufacturers to have more control and keep the secrets to themselves.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus 10 will soon be hitting our comparison site as Google continues to let the Nexus brand grow. As Google has endless amounts of cash and the Asian manufacturers have the mass production down to a tee, it makes complete sense to license the brand out to them. We’ve already heard that the new Motorola Nexus phones will be called manta and Occam, and they could see the Key Lime Pie 4.2.2 upgrade, so expect those to be available in around 4-6 months judging by the rate of the Android updates.

A number of Droid handsets are also being tipped to run on Key Lime Pie from the off so it seems like Google Android is making waves in the smartphone world on both the software and hardware side of things. However, don’t forget that there will be an Intel based RAZR I model that the EU get. It’s an interesting time in the smartphone industry as more and more phones are challenging the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5; which are two of the best-selling phones ever to be made.

For those who are looking to buy a new smartphone, whether it is a Galaxy S3 or the new S3 Mini, then it’s a good idea to check the pricing. As more retailers are feeling the pinch of the recession we are sure to find higher prices in high-ticket areas such as London. However, if you compare all of the mobile phone contract deals then you’ll see what the best mobile phone is at the right price for you. If you’re tying yourself into a contract then you want to get a cheap mobile phone contract that lasts the duration.
