Compliments of the season

It is that time of year again when billions upon billions of Christmas Cards are sent across the globe to wish all our friends, families and colleagues the compliments of the season. Of course the BCI send the same wishes but, as we have done in the past, we have again decided not to send Christmas Cards. Instead we will donate the money to a much needier cause.

Following the recent typhoon - Haiyan - which battered the central Philippines with sustained winds of up to 320 km/h (199mph), we have decided to donate the money to 'Build Rescue Boats in Flood Prone Communities'. This is a project based in the Philippines and further information can be found by visiting the GlobalGiving website.

The money will be used to build tough fiberglass rescue boats so that, during a flood, specially trained community leaders can pick up anyone trapped by the water. The community already has several boats which have saved lives in past floods, and with more boats, they'll be able to save even more lives.

I'm sure you'll agree that saving lives sounds far more worthwhile than a piece of paper with a picture of a snowman on it.

The BCI would like to wish all our Chapter Leaders, Forum Leaders, Area Reps, the BCI Board, Global Membership Council and fellow business continuity practitioners around the world, Seasons’ Greetings and a healthy 2014.

For your information, the BCI Central Office will be closed on 25th and 26th December and 1st January 2014, re-opening on Thursday 2nd January 2014. On the days between Christmas and New Year, the office will be staffed between 10am and 3pm only.
